Our Story

Marcos & I met at Hesston College in 2003 during Marcos' second year and my first year. We became friends through Marcos' RA, Jason, who happened to be a good friend of mine as well. We started hanging out and became better friends toward the end of that first semester. The real magic began over spring break of that year when I went with Marcos and some friends out to California. The plan was to spend a few nights at my house in CA and then do some backpacking in the mountains. Marcos & I spent the whole car ride from Hesston, KS to Rancho Cucamonga, CA talking, and boring our car-mate, Brandon, to death. We really hit it off and left with some of our best memories together. We started dating on March 21,2004 not too long after that spring break.

Our next year was a little bit more of a challenge because Marcos moved on to Goshen College leaving me in Hesston to finish my sophomore year. That year was spent mostly on the phone. Marcos made just a few trips out to Hesston ;o) and I did go out to see Marcos in Goshen as well.

After that year of being apart Marcos decided that we had spent enough time apart so he came out to California to stay with my family for a little over a month. We also made a trip out east that year and went to the Mennonite convention in Charlotte, North Carolina, Harrisonburg, VA and Washington DC. It was my first time out east and a good time to spend with Marcos' family.

That fall I transfered to Goshen College and we were in the same place again. That was a really great time to work at our relationship without a phone between us, and also to spend time with mutual friends.

In December of 2005 we spent time with both families for Christmas; we were in Colorado with Marcos' parents for a few weeks and then went out to California to spend time with my family. It is a tradition for Sharon, my best friend, and I to go to Disneyland around Christmas, so Marcos came with us this year. It was at Disneyland that Marcos took the opportunity, before the fake snow and fireworks started, to propose and I, obviously, happily accepted. :o)

Since our engagement, Marcos graduated from College and both of us went on Study Service Term (SST). Marcos did his SST in Perú and I was in the Dominican Republic. We both had amazing times, but were very happy to get back to each other after another three months apart. Last summer after SST we spent two weeks in both CO and CA with family and then headed back to Goshen.

Now I am approaching my last semester in college while Marcos is working as an application developer at Haiku Learning Systems. Marcos is enjoying his job very much and I have "senioritis." At this point we are working on planning a wedding and everything that comes with that, and we look forward to seeing what the rest of our story will become!
